I would kindly like to present a personal statement that would give a complete overview of my reasons and objectives regarding my desire for transferring from my current institution of learning to the University of North Carolina. After thinking about it for quite months, I have finally made up my mind to apply for admission to the University of North California at Chapel Hill for the rest of my undergraduate study. Obviously, I have many reasons for this decision, and I do hope the Admission Committee will approve my application and this would imply that finally there is light at the end of the tunnel. Apart, from the reasons that I have, I also have the objectives that I hope to achieve. After doing my research a few year back, I was convinced that my future dream would become into reality if I only join the University of North California and if given a chance fail the Admission Committee and more so myself.
As a young girl in China, I grew up watching American movies, and I admired their culture such as language among other things. I love my country, China, and its culture too but I have always wanted to blend it with the American way of life and how they perceive things. I am an individual who loves challenges, and I never want to stay in the bubble, thus deciding to come to study in the U.S. some years back. I have always admired the system of education adopted in the United States because it is has been proved to be the best in the world. In the United States, I have enjoyed the freedom of expression more than I would have enjoyed while in my origin country. The American society has not discriminated me for being a lesbian, and this has enabled me to have high self-esteem.
I have a deep concern for human rights, women’s rights and am a firm activist for LGBT. I am inspired to promote the LGBT activities in China, and I am hopeful that one day I would be able to identify myself as a lesbian in China proudly. I believe that the University of North Carolina would empower me as it has empowered other women who return to their origin land give back to the society and advocate for human rights. At the moment, I have majored in Statistics, and after doing my research, I was convinced that the University of North California is one of the universities in the U.S producing best statisticians and I would be humbled to one of them (Pitman, pg. 42). I have always been passionate about data manipulation and development of statistical models that would be applicable in the society. I would also like to be taught by the lecturers from the University of California because of their recognition globally.
Apparently, my current institution, the University of Minnesota does not offer some of the courses that I would like a study, but those courses are offered at the University of North California. Apart, from the course, my current university has few human rights movements that advocate for women rights. As I stated earlier, I have a zeal for joining social movements so that I can gain knowledge and experience that would enable me to change the perception of people from my country regarding the position of a woman in society. Therefore, joining the University of California would be a milestone in my future goals because the university has all the necessary platforms that would help me achieve all I ever wanted.
